PD or no PD (part I)

The more I think about it the more it becomes a blur. What is professional development? How long should each session last? How often should the sessions be? Who should attend the sessions? Should the faculty be mandated to attend? How often is often enough?

As a Computer Technology Instructor (and aspiring Instructional Technology Specialist) I often struggle with these questions. But this is the tip of the iceberg. I am not a full time ITS but a guy can wish can’t he?

Web 2.0, technology integration, 1:1 computing, technology as a resource to higher intellectual inquiry, don’t we all wish for these. When I think about professional development, I think about when an individual does something to enhance their knowledge of their specialty and how to share that knowledge in their respective disciplines. I think this development should be frequent and at comfortable intervals dictates by the individual.

What do you think?
