How Education Is Changing

What a great book I’m reading in my grad class (Researching and Evaluating Technologies). I feel an imperative to blog to document this experience because it is life-altering. From the very first chapter I have read stimulating things as follows:

  • “the best teachers are leaving high-poverty schools that need them most, because they can earn more money and respect in other districts or even in other occupations
  • many teachers see little value in spending their time helping students prepare for standardized tests that they do not think measure real learning
  • these stresses have pushed most schools to follow practices that reduce learning choices at the same time that technologies widen options” (

While this isn’t new news it sure is eye-opening because this book was published about 9 years ago and this country, and education overall, hasn’t changed much since then. Are we really that dense America?

I believe teachers and students are fed up with our system of education but what are WE going to do about it?

Often technology in education has a roadblock named access but that is outdated with the upward trend of smartphones everywhere. What would happen when everyone has that omnipotent access to learn whatever they want whenever they want?
